Today’s picture is of the Manor House, West Bromwich, which has a St George’s Day Family Fun Day on today. There will also be a big St George’s Day parade in Stone Cross tomorrow.

We have more snow, here in England and so I thought I would cover editing snow pictures a little more. I edited this this one with PhotoScape and used the option to make it look like a pencil drawing and added some text.

Sometimes you can scan an old photo and improve it or make it artistic with editing. This is West Bromwich High Street at the beginning of the 20th century. I edited with PhotoScape and use the colorize option.

When I start a blog, I have to think of a title and then what picture to begin with. It’s not easy! This photo is of the Manor House in West Bromwich, it’s now a museum and open to the public on some afternoons. People overseas keep telling me they want to come and see the places that I photograph. Maybe the Tourist Board should sponsor one of my blogs!

I went to the Oak House on Sunday and took some photographs of the house and the grounds. This is quite an unusual angle, but the light was bright and I have got shadows, giving a better view of the details on the house. The leading on the windows shows clearly, but on the photo taken farther away, that can’t be seen. This photograph still has depth as the front wall goes away from us. (more…)

I photographed this display yesterday in the Oak House, an old manor house. That would be where the Lord of the Manor lived while the common people lived in squalor. I find it amazing that elitism is still popular in the 21st century. We have computers, the internet and smart phones, but people still worship royalty and celebrities. They turn out in droves to wave their little flags, when prompted to, by their betters. It seems once it gets going, it’s infectious. We are social animals though and so we like to do things together. I’m surprised public orgies aren’t more popular.

In the olden days, the Lord of the Manor lived in his Manor House and protected it with walls and a moat. These days the rich and powerful have more sophisticated tools to control the peasants. They have spin and propaganda. They can influence beliefs on a grand scale, using many psychological tools. It is done through many channels, that we call the media. This isn’t new, it’s been done for many years and can have disastrous results. Hitler demonized the Jews with propaganda, here in the UK it can be anyone who claims welfare benefits. Now though, it seems almost no one is safe; even bankers are demonized for giving themselves bonuses! Where will it all end? (more…)

My first picture today is the Manor House at West Bromwich. The light wasn’t very good, but I used a lot of Sunday’s pictures and the video clips to make the video I used in yesterdays blog. I was disappointed with the video, it displays full screen and it loses resolution; it’s better displayed smaller. I did embed it and the preview was good but then WordPress changed it to a link. The Lake
Most people can find something to photograph close by these days and it’s inexpensive with a digital camera. Then you can share your photographs using Windows Live, Photobucket or Facebook. We started at this lake and it’s relaxing walking around and sometimes we talk to people. It’s less than two miles away and I am quite often happy to just go there but we took some pictures and I shot some video clips and we moved on. Yes, I’m making a video! (more…)
