The weekend review

Canal

I took today’s photo in bright sunshine, unfortunately I don’t have that picture any more. The original was wiped from my computer. I only have this smaller one now, which isn’t suitable for a calendar. I’m hoping the sun will come out this weekend so I can try to get the same shot again. We do have some nice places in the Black Country, it’s a shame they’re not always appreciated. (more…)

The weekend review

1 The George

I read a really good article yesterday about how to take night pictures. They say you should consider the exposure triangle to set your camera for this type of picture. That is set the ISO, aperture and speed. While I was doing all that and setting up a tripod, I would probably get mugged for the camera. (more…)

Christmas is coming

DSC_3517

Christmas is coming and it’s getting colder in the UK. The energy companies are increasing the prices of gas and electricity as usual. If the people running these companies or the regulators had any morality at all they would at least increase prices in the spring or summer. Like the government they are immoral.

Walsall Park

I took this picture in a park and it’s not very interesting. The important thing, with a lot of nature pictures in parks and woodland is the separation of the different colours. Most of the picture can be different shades of green, so you need  the difference to show, rather than all blend in together.

Art | Can we define it?

A drawing by Renoir

Walsall Art Gallery

Renoir

This drawing might not seem very special, but if I told you it was by Pierre-Auguste Renoir. You might have a different opinion. Art is about perceptions and a well known name or even the name of a art movement affects our perception of a work of art. This little drawing is in Walsall Art Gallery .

Monday sunshine

DSC_1492

It’s Monday and I’m not really a Monday morning person. It’s lunchtime though. I spent the morning putting things in the washer, cleaning the bathroom and writing my usual Monday psychology blog post. You can click that link to read that on a zillion ideas. I went to the carnival on Saturday as you can see.

DARLO

Darlaston is a local town with quite a few Victorian buildings, so we wandered around there a couple of years ago taking a few photos. These pictures can be edited and the ‘modern’ things taken out to give the picture a real Victorian look.

The psychology of art

art or photography

What do you think of today’s picture? Art or photography? Andy Warhol once said art is, whatever you can get away with or words to that effect. There have been a lot of art movements. A picture of a tin of Campbell’s soup was recognised as art once. I remember a pile of bricks being passed off as art too.

SUNDAY IN WEDNESBURY 015

The weather has improved a little now that we are closer to summer. I took this shot on Sunday and it was quite sunny. Notice how I’ve used the trees to add depth. I didn’t edit much, I just added some contrast.

Neodigital Art | What is Art?

DUCKS 004

Pictures were drawn by early man, on the walls of caves with whatever he could find. The earliest pictures were probably done with chalk and maybe charcoal. Some artists still use charcoal. Artists tend to be avant garde, the advanced guard, exploring the new frontiers. They search for new ideas and new mediums.

SQUIRES WALK WEDNESBURY GREY SCALE

This must be my best picture so far in 2013. The angle of the shot is unusual and I think it looks good in grey scale. I did my usual editing and removed a council litter bin, then changed it to grey scale. I did crop quite a lot of the original too.

Cathedral too

I did this edit from a photo by Simon James. I cropped the photo and then edited with PhotoScape using the coloured pencil option. Neodigital Art is about using digital devices, cameras, scanners and computers to create something different.

Normal April showers?

Woden Road South (2)

I took this photo a year ago. I look at the sky a lot now in an attempt to predict the weather. The sky looked a paler blue last year, today it’s been a deep blue with white clouds and April showers. We had a very wet summer last year, are we back to normal now?

Another midweek moan

SATURDAY 077

Today I have used a picture of the churches overlooking the town where I live. When I’m out taking photographs, I often look at them and know I’m still close to home. They stand on a hill with steep sides on this side. A 1,000 years ago a castle stood there and Princess Ethelfreda fought the Viking invaders from there.

Neodigital Art | Defining Art

A CART

I used this picture last week and it was suggested that a colour version might look better. I did a lot of editing on this, cropping it and changing it to a watercolour image. I also edited out the cars in the background again.

Neodigital Art | Editing with PhotoScape

A HAND CART

Today’s picture was taken at Forge Mill Farm in Sandwell Valley and I’ve edited it with PhotoScape taking out some cars in the background and I changed the colours to look like sepia.

Weekend review from the heart of England

SANDWELL VALLEY 048

I get a few local readers at the weekend and so I’ll explain about today’s picture. I took this at Easter at Forge Mill Farm in Sandwell Valley Country Park. From Walsall take the Birmingham Road, turn right at the Scott Arms and go up the Newton Road then left into Forge Lane. Forge Mill Farm is on the left, take the second entrance. (more…)

Saturday roundup of this weeks ideas

LOCK KEEPER COTTAGE 021

The weather forecast for this weekend is rain all weekend and so I think there is little chance of me taking more photographs this weekend. It’s only 11 days to the Spring equinox. That will be closely followed by Easter and we will be putting the clocks on an hour so the evenings will be lighter and maybe a little warmer.

Neodigital Art | Timeline pictures

a zillion ideas sunset

This picture is my my cover picture on my Facebook Timeline. On the left of the picture is my profile photo, just underneath where the sun is in this picture. When you’re doing a photo like this it’s important to get the text in the right place.

narrowboat

I can’t remember when I took this photo. I think it was the summer of 2011. I do remember having to take it through chain-link fencing. I have edited it again using PhotoScape using a watercolour option. It looks quite artistic now. (more…)

The Saturday collection of this week’s highlights

The bridge across to Moorcroft Wood

Today’s picture is of the bridge across the canal that goes to Moorcroft Wood. Many canals run in a straight line, but this one meanders around a little. You can walk along the canal from the waterfront outside Walsall Art gallery, through Pleck to Darlaston and past George Rose park to Moxley and eventually end up here. It’s fascinating to see how the canals run through the Black Country.

Taking and editing snow photos

SNOW 2 012

This is what I saw when I opened my bedroom curtains this morning. I did the edit with Windows Live Photo Gallery. If you haven’t edited before, set the program as your default for viewing photos. Right click on a picture, then choose ‘open with’, then select ‘default program; then choose Windows Live Photo Gallery.
