Impressionism

Montgomery Tuesday 5 July 2011 (30)

This picture is similar to the one I used last week and I have altered it quite a lot to give an interesting impression of a bridge and the rocks. This photograph was taken by Simon James on one of his travels into Wales (Montgomery).

My garden

My garden

Even my garden can make an interesting picture! In the foreground I have a potato plant and you can see the trees in the background even though they are out of focus. I have taken a couple of photographs of wild flowers with a landscape in the background and it helps to give the picture depth. I can’t get the foreground and background in focus, but it seems to work with the background out of focus.

In the park

West Park. Wolverhampton Thursday 30 June 2011 (27)

Victorian parks have the odd interesting building and this photograph was taken by Simon James again in West Park, Wolverhampton. The trees give the picture some depth and it’s an interesting building.

Getting depth

Lake in Woden Road South

I take a lot of photographs at this lake, but usually I’ll try to get the branch of a tree in the foreground. In this picture, I got down lower to get these things in (whatever they are) and it’s hard to tell what is in focus; actually it’s all slightly out of focus, but seems to work. The foreground looks interesting, but I also got the bush as a central feature on the other side of the lake. This is taken across the lake and so getting depth was even more important. Holding the camera lower or putting it on a tripod can get some interesting effects.

  1. Thanks so much for sharing your artistry with us. Each picture transported me. Most took me back to my former home, England, but the top picture was different. Because of your enhancements, I could see that picture being part of a sci fi movie set. Perhaps a different planet? The depth in the picture was amazing as well.

I also love the beautiful building in the park and how you improved the shot using depth. I learned a lot from this post!

I think the plants are pussy willows, but I’m not certain you have those in England?

  2. Hi Carolyn,

You are probably right about the plants. I needed a geologist for my volcanic rock and now I need a botanist; what next? 🙂
