Frugal Food | 中国翻炒 Chinese Stir Fry
Ingredients
Unsmoked bacon
Chinese leaves or white cabbage
Boiled rice
Canola Oil
Soya sauce
Chinese 5 Spice
Chopped spring onions
I doubt if this recipe is anything like genuine Chinese food but I enjoyed it! I put a few tablespoons of Canola oil into the wok and stir fried my chopped bacon; I used half a packet. Then I added the boiled rice and stirred constantly. The Chinese leaves should cook quickly but I used white cabbage and part cooked that. It cooked quickly (boiled) because it was finely chopped. The white cabbage is added about 2 minutes after the rice and keep stirring. Then add the chopped spring onion. I didn’t have spring onions either so used very finely chopped red onion. When everything looks cooked add a tablespoon of soya sauce and sprinkle on the 5 spice; stir and cook another minute. Then serve; delicious!
You can add any vegetables you want to, peas are good. You can also substitute the bacon for chopped pork or chicken. Have fun with your cooking.

Hi Myfanwy,
It tasted nice too. I was going to cook it again but couldn’t get gluten free soy sauce! It’s better with bean sprouts too. One day I’ll get all the ingredients I need at the same time!
