Spring Clean 2012
People seem to have different reasons for Spring cleaning. Some of them are religious, cleaning the house in time for Passover and that sort of thing. It’s said that it’s a good time to Spring clean because it’s still quite chilly and so you can open the windows with out letting a zillion flies in. Personally, now the sun is shining, I can see the dust and dirt that as built up through the dark winter days.
In England the sun’s shining today and I’m sure many people will be thinking of cleaning. I have laundry in the washing machine. This sunshine can also lift the mood and help people who suffer the winter depression known as Seasonally Affected Disorder or SAD. It certainly helped me a little to get out in the sunshine and take a few photographs yesterday. Besides the lake in the picture which is relaxing and pleasant on a sunny day, we also walked down the canal and through woodland. Even driving in the sunshine was more pleasant, especially as the roads were quieter on a Sunday. I did see some boy racers taking their little cars out for the first day of really decent weather. They passed me on the dual carriageway, engines screaming in contrast to mine which as purring along. There was blossom coming on the trees in places and we still have winter colours but they were vivid in the Spring sunshine.
It’s a good time to clean house, put washing on the line outside or get out in the garden and prepare it for planting. You can also think about changing your diet and eating healthier as different foods come into season. If you’re trying to lose weight, this is an ideal time. There will be fresh tomatoes, lettuce and all kinds of salad thing to eat through the summer and they taste so much better if you grow your own. The exercise will help you lose weight too.
The most important thing about Spring is the psychological effect of the change in seasons. It acts as a natural anti depressant if you go out and soak it up. Get out there and watch the blossom come on the trees and the daffodils bloom. As nature reawakens after the winter; it will help you reawaken to, all you have to do is go out there and join in. The summer will seem so much longer too, if you enjoy the Spring now. Do you remember those long hot summers as a child? They were long because you couldn’t wait to get started and went out in Spring and enjoyed the sunshine! It’s time to get out there and play again!
I have to start lunch and peg out my washing; I’m off out again today! There are more amazing blogs on the Home Page. Please comment, is it Spring in your country yet?

Another beautiful day here too, Mike. It’s certainly good to see the sun. No spring cleaning, though. No time. Too much work so mustn’t complain! Have fun.

Yes, great here. I’ll be using photos I took yesterday for tomorrow’s blog. The bright sun and winter colours made for interesting pictures.

It is definitely spring in Southern California. Although our winters are very mild, it is still so true that the change to spring is welcomed. I think it very well may be the increase in daylight hours. My mood is enhanced! I enjoyed hearing about your experiences with spring, too, Mike. Debra

Hi Debra,
I think the lighter evenings make a difference. We have just altered our clocks an hour forward and so I’m getting used to the change. I’m tired and not hungry when meal times come around! I had an early lunch today because I was going out but it was really too early! I’ll be used to it by September! 🙂
