Bank Holiday Weekend
It’s a Bank Holiday weekend in the UK, when by tradition, it rains. It’s looking a little dark, but not raining at the moment. The forecast says the temperature here will drop to 9C tomorrow with more rain. Things should start to improve on Wednesday though when a little sunshine is forecast. I have used an artistic picture of Forge Mill Farm for today’s blog. I thought about going there again this weekend, but hardly worth it now. You do have to make the most of the good weather while it’s here in England. I read this morning that people have been setting fire to themselves lighting barbecues while slightly inebriated. This weather could be a blessing in disguise, if it gives the fire service a rest.
When people aren’t setting themselves on fire trying to light the barbecue they’re chopping bits out of themselves with the hover mower. They need to put more episodes of Eastenders on TV for a couple of days and show the Jubilee celebrations in warmer climes like Australia. Now they know how to have a barbecue and crack open a few tinnies; no worries…
If you’re a regular reader, you’ll be relieved to hear that I fixed my car with a squirt of WD40. I have a seed tray full of lettuce seedling and so the gardening is doing well too.
I started a new series of articles about dieting this week and so if you are trying to lose a bit of weight so you can wear summer clothes without showing all your flab, pop over to a Zillion Ideas and check that out. I posted yet another Neodigital Art blog on this site and one over on a Zillion Ideas; well I had plenty of pictures after my outing to Sandwell Valley last week. My new website is getting readers slowly, but I still need more. I am trying to encourage people to guest blog too, because they will gain experience of getting their ideas across in words and I get more practice editing. If you want to write your ideas down and do a guest blog, do have a go and email it to me at the address in the side bar.
There isn’t a lot of good news to report this week. We have rain, the Jubilee thingy and the stock market continues to fall. I think it will all improve this week. The Jubilee thingy and the Bank Holidays will be over by Wednesday and then the Bank of England monetary policy committee meets. I expect them to decide on more quantitative easing and the extra money printed should end up in the stock market raising share prices. If Britain takes the lead, who knows which countries will follow; they might even start printing money in Europe too. When the sun starts shining and the world is once again flush with cash, we will all feel great again. Then they’ll put the Olympics on television to make us all depressed and the rain will start again.
Some Conservative MP’s want to rename Big Ben to Elizabeth Tower. Big Ben is actually the bell. We know what will happen if they do rename it, people will either think it’s daft and ignore it or they’ll start calling it, Big Liz or something. Go back to sleep, you idiots.
Someone has suggested that the government build 25,000 affordable new homes. I think the idea to scrap the tax on granny flats has a better chance of being implemented. The chances of the government doing something sensible are about the same as Shergar winning the Epsom Derby. That’s where the Queen is today, I wouldn’t mind being a there too, if I had a stall full of Union Flag mugs to sell.
I hope you’ll comment on this blog and do pop over to a Zillion Ideas and read those blogs too. Have a great Bank Holiday weekend!

Hi Alex,
I think sometimes politicians get bored and will say just about anything. I hope you feel better soon, saw you weren’t too well. The weather here is depressing, but I have the lottery to look forward to this evening. They say it’s going sunny when the Bank Holiday is over! 🙂

You’re right, Mike, many people think that Big Ben is the tower, but it is the clock. I suppose they could name the Tower after Her Majesty, but people would be even more confused.
Shouldn’t they name something else after her?
By the way, I follow Big Ben on Twitter. He is very good at microblogging. (@Big_Ben_Clock).

Hi Carolyn,
I thought you would comment on that picture. Not all seems artistic to me but that one does. I think it’s a mistake to rename Big Ben. I actually doubt if the Queen wants it renamed!
