Skydrive!

I’ve just downloaded and installed the Skydrive app for my laptop. I had these photos on my Skydrive before but I have added some more. In my pictures library, I have a folder called ‘blog photos’. The ‘app’ gave me a new folder called Skydrive and so I copied ‘blog photos’ to there and the folder was automatically uploaded to my Skydrive. That is cool, but a sub-folder of the ‘blog photos’ on the Skydrive is empty. Not so good!

I should be able to link the Skydrive to Windows Live writer. That would be really cool. I clicked picture and sure enough, I should be able to. I have linked in the folder that has the pictures above in it, but I can’t access ‘blog photos’ from Live writer! Confused? So am I! Live writer has also become unresponsive at times and appears dislike the new Skydrive!

It doesn’t work at all well with Live writer, but you can drag and drop files into the Skydrive folder to be uploaded easily to the Skydrive and so it is 7 Gb of free storage online.

I have downloaded a picture and that was easy enough and fairly quick. You can view the photos online and then just click download. To download the Windows Live Skydrive just click the link to go to the webpage.  Overall, you get 7 Gb of free backup storage online and it’s easy to drag and drop files to it. Like a lot of stuff from Microsoft it isn’t quite perfect and doesn’t work right with Live writer. I’m not really sure if the slideshow above will work. Fingers crossed!

There are more amazing blogs on the home page.

  1. Haven’t heard of skydrive. I used to use livewriter, but it was always ‘playing up’. I’ve hardly had any problems with anything since moving to WordPress, but only use the app on the iPad, so don’t know what an app on the PC might be like. I find doing it online from either is a doddle.

    • Hi Myfanmy,

Livewriter is better than it used to be. I used it without a problem until I decided to do a self hosted blog and this one. Now I have to remember to correct the HTML to get the font right at the beginning of a blog. I use the same theme for both blogs, but I set the font size to large for this one and medium for the other one to get the same size! I think Skydrive will be useful but only as a back up for some photos. I can share photos with my friends in China who are blocked from Facebook too.

      • Now that’s useful to know, Mike. I know that Facebook is a problem out there, however, I’m having a problem with FB too at the moment!

  3. Hi Mike, I haven’t used Skydrive yet. I’m a big fan of Dropbox because of its integration with other apps and websites.

It sounds as if your experience with Skydrive has been a bit frustrating. The slideshow didn’t work for me. The error message said that the file wasn’t found.

    • Hi Carolyn,

That’s the problem with anything from Microsoft, they never test anything to perfection. I have trouble with Windows Magnifier on and off and it seems Skydrive has bugs. The slideshow works for me but I suppose I’m logged in. It will be OK for back ups, but maybe unreliable for sharing. Not much more useful than a flash drive!
