Offers and bargains #thrifty
The Aldi super-six this week are parsnips (600g), leeks (500g), snack pack grapes (170g), mangetout (150g), carrots (1.2kg) and white potatoes (2.5kg). They are all 49p each. Those offers finish on the 8th of April.
Offers
I went to Aldi earlier in the week and they did have gluten free sausages! I bought eight packs at 1.99 each so have all the empty spaces in my freezer packed with sausages. They are very filling too, so they’ll last me a little while.
The meat offers this week are confusing, they say six meat offers, but there are only three! They are better this week though. The turkey steaks are 1.99, the twin pack of smoked back bacon is also 1.99 and there is a British pork leg joint for 2.99. I might have one of those joints if they have any left on Monday.
The special buys today are mixed, but have a decorating theme for the main ones. There is also some hiking gear. The walking poles are 2 for 9.99. I have one of those and it’s really useful, because I had surgery on my hip. Mine also doubles as a monopod for photography. I must remember to use that this weekend. I’m photographing a narrow-boat gathering.
The special buys for Monday are mostly for gardening. Remember this week that it’s Easter Sunday and so Aldi will be closed on Sunday! The top special buy for Monday is a pressure washer for 79.99.
There are a lot of offers on at Matalan until April the 7th. I think it will be crowded at the weekend and maybe Monday too, so pick a good time for your trip there. They usually open on Sunday, but I’m not sure about Easter Sunday or Easter Monday.
Easter days out
It’s Easter and so you might be planning a day out. Remember food and drink costs more if you buy it when you’re at an event. Take some with you. Sandwiches are good and individual soft drinks. I use those plastic cups from Poundland that you get 100 for £1! Soft drinks with screw tops are better, you can drink a little and finish it later. Take bananas and other fruit to eat.
Look online for free places to go. Try your local council’s website for museums and art galleries. I’m going to a narrow-boat gathering at Tipton in the Black Country and will photograph that. There will also be some art galleries open. If the weather is nice, you could always take a picnic to a Victorian Park or a local nature reserve. The weather forecast where I am in the Black Country is more rain today and Friday, but clearing at the weekend. A cloudy weekend with a little sun will suit me, some cloud keeps the heat in and a white sky can be great for photography. I’m hoping to visit the Pen Maker’s Boat on Sunday and check out the handmade pens. I doubt if I’ll get a bargain, but maybe one of those pens will be collector’s items and worth a fortune in the future. You never know…
I nearly forgot Easter eggs, they are on offer everywhere; even in Tesco. Most supermarkets have hot cross buns too. You don’t have to spend a fortune to make Easter a little bit special for the kids. A picnic in the park is a lot more special and memorable than an expensive Easter egg.
That’s all for this week, enjoy Easter whatever you’re doing. If you’re at the boat gathering at Tipton, watch out for me. I’ll be the one with the camera bag and the Nikon!
