This site is English – get used to it…

I’m Mike Maynard and this is my blog. I’m a writer and also executive editor of a Zillion Ideas. I have written a novel and I write about a variety of subjects. I need guest blogs for my new site at a Zillion Ideas, so if you’re interested in writing and need a place to start, send me an email. My email address is in the side bar. I also need sponsors for my new site. I would like a camera manufacturer to sponsor so I can test a decent camera and write about it. I am interested in all sponsorship ideas though.  You can subscribe to this blog and receive an email every time I post a new blog. That is usually every day.

    • Hi Jacquie,

Thanks for visiting again. I tried to look at you blog but you haven’t posted yet. I’m building a collection of blogs now and people are actually reading them. I am getting used to promoting them now and found a better way to get the search engines to find them this week. I’m also working on an article for a major website. I have a few friends in California; they are mostly on LinkedIn and Facebook. You can add me on Facebook; there is a link to my page in the sidebar somewhere!

    Hi Mike,

Just wanted to say thanks for writing such a great blog – will be definately tuning in for more!
With children and on a tight budget, i am already gaining lots of tips on frugality, helped even more by being a Brummie too! (Erdington). Will definately be taking a trip down to the markets in town and getting some fruit and veg bargains.
    thanks again.

    • Thanks Aileen,

I’m not far from Brum. I have been around the markets; I used to work in Brum many moons ago! I’m North of Brum in the Black Country.

  3. You are such a talented man. I can write, love gardening (the arthritis is revolting), but not much after that.

Thanks for the help with my site. I’ve never been to England. Perhaps one day. Sally Brown

    • Thanks Sally,

I try to do my garden, but try harder to find a gardener! If my aching joints and muscles isn’t enough; I have hayfever! It’s mostly tree pollen though and so I’ll stay away from nature reserves and parks for a few weeks. I shall post a lot of the weekend. 🙂

  5. If you plan to publish your pyschological thriller, I would suggest keeping it off the internet. Some publishers don’t want a manuscript if its content is all over the place. You can post bits and samples to get us interested, but I would highly recommend keeping off huge chunks.

Besides that, I believe I’ll really enjoy following this blog.

    Take care,

    • Hi Jennifer,

I’m not sure what I will do with my thriller. I must have realism but it became too erotic and I stopped writing it! I think if I’m not happy with something I leave it alone and come back to it, it seems easier to be objective then.

Thanks for your visit and for subscribing.

Hey Mike, it looks like im having one of those dumb ass days.. how do i subscribe? I cannot find a tab to do so? Thanks

    15, September 2011 at 4:05 pm

    • Hi Gareth,

When you comment there are two boxes, tick the one to subscribe to the blog and get email updates and the other box is to subscribe to the comment thread. If there is a comment name that looks like a link (in blue on this site) it’s a link to someone’s blog or website.

I am doing a little better today, people are reading the thrifty blog, but people aren’t finding my blog on search! I can’t have it all ways!

Thanks for the comment and I hope you find the subscribe box.

  14. Hi Bittercharm,

I don;t know what the Liebster award is but thanks for that. I was nominated for the Versatile Blogger award too. I think I have to nominate others, I’ll get around to it eventually. I need inspiration this morning, I think my brain froze when I went outside to pay the window cleaner!

  15. Hi Mike. I caught your comments on Linkdin and thought I’d check out your blog. I’m from over on the other side of the big pond. I wish you well on your novel, and like your blog. I’ll be back.

    4, January 2012 at 12:58 am

  16. Hi Dennis,

I must update this page with my latest plans! The novel went on the back burner and I’m concentrating on a blog for the time being. People don’t read novels by unknown writers, generally speaking but I’m getting better known! 🙂

  18. Hi,

Thanks! My first nomination of 2012! I’ve just started a new blog on self hosted web space, but have to sort out plug ins and submit to search engines, etc. The email isn’t working either but I’ve made a start. I was photographing snow last night! It’s melting but I might get a few pictures today…

    9, October 2013 at 5:04 pm

    • Hi,

There is a place to sign up in the side bar to the right and there should be a box to tick when you comment too. I can’t see them when I’m logged in! Let me know if you have a problem.

      9, October 2013 at 5:17 pm

      • where it says “follow this blog” it still asks me to sign up via facebook

      • Hi,

I’ve signed you up. You should get a confirmation email. Let me know, if you don’t get it.

  22. I really, really liked what you said:

“You dream, you have imagination and so you can be creative. That can be enjoyable and give us a sense of self worth. I can only offer the advice to set goals and then take small steps towards those goals and eventually you get there! Be honest and be responsible and set realistic goals. Many people are greedy or wasteful and want too much from life. We have to value the world we live in and value ourselves too.”

    You said it here:

Check out my blog. No idea what kind of guest writers you’re looking for. 🙂
    Sleep time here.
    I realize there are 300-ish entries there – here’s one I like:
    Another one:

Lately been entering more unedited thoughts.

    • Hi,

I am interested in everything. I have a guest blog this week about a Arts Fest in Walsall. It’s not the type of art I’m usually into, but never reject something out of hand. I might go take a look at it. I edited that post and allowed the writer to read it before it was published. I think she was pleased with the editing. Editing can make a document so much better. Many publishing houses have submissions edited by a couple of junior editors, then a senior editor and often an executive editor too. I just edit, edit again and do a final check and still miss typos! You might like to try commentluv – it’s free. I’ll head over to you blog now. I have 10 minutes or so before I start cooking lunch!
