Time for change #review
You might have noticed that my blog posts have changed this week. I want my writing to be more successful and to be read by more people. I’ve decided to concentrate my efforts in one place on A Zillion Ideas and make better use of my photography too. I can optimise the SEO better on my other site using a plug-in as well.
Pollen and other hazards #Sunday ramble
Welcome to another Sunday ramble when I take you on a wander around the less trodden pathways of my mind. It’s the pathways up my nose that are concerning me today as my sinuses get blocked with spring pollen. (more…)
Driving me crazy #review
I’m not as young as I used to be. I look at things I can’t change and become resigned to it. I appreciate many things more as experience has taught me they are valuable. I saw a comment by a young driver who thinks all old people should be banned from motorways, because to him they hog the outside lane. (more…)
It could be worse #Sunday #ramble
So, the Tories pulled a fast one. Instead of targeting Labour seats they went after the Lib Dems instead. It makes sense, rather than go after the left wing constituencies, they swayed the middle of the road voter to turn right. It could be worse though, even though we have five more years of austerity. (more…)
online and offline marketing #thrifty
The Aldi super six this week are baby plum tomatoes (275g), baby corn (135g), salad potatoes (1kg), snack pack grapes (170g), fun-size apples and white mushrooms (380g). They are all 59p each and new offers start on 21st May. (more…)
Rain, what rain? #Sunday #ramble
I took today’s photo a year ago at West Bromwich Manor House. The Boer War re-enactment group is there again this weekend for a re-enactment of an American civil war battle. The bank holiday weather isn’t good. As usual, we have rain. At the moment it seems to have stopped and we’re British, we just go on! (more…)
St Georges day parade #photography
It’s St George’s Day on Thursday, but the events were last weekend. This is the Stone Cross St George’s day parade in West Bromwich. When I’m photographing an event, I try to tell a story in pictures and then add words to the story. (more…)
Memories #Sunday #ramble
This is Wednesbury Market, my local market. In the past the council have tried stopping other markets and car boot sales setting up too close, by claiming that this market has a royal charter. It is generally accepted that the market does have a royal charter, but the truth is the royal charter was given to the lord of the manor and not the council, for two fairs a year; not two markets a week! (more…)
Markets #GE2015
I photographed the local market in Wednesbury this week. Do you suppose all the goods on sale were British? Me neither. We live in a global market now and everything seems to have a price. I have been helping students with their writing and one has graduated and got a job in Shanghai, she asked my advice this week. (more…)
Tipton Narrow-boat gathering #photography
It was Easter weekend and there was a narrow-boat gathering and although the weather was cloudy I got some decent shots. I took this shot on a landscape ‘scene’ setting, but then switched to manual for this better shot. (more…)
Happy Easter #review
I’ve been writing this blog for a few years now, so when I want a picture to start the post or a bit of inspiration I just look in my media library on WordPress. I just caught these two geese flying over Hydes Pool last April. I named them Maverick and Goose, because they were flying in formation! (more…)
Wednesbury History #Sunday #ramble
We have a local history page for Wednesbury on Facebook and yesterday I was made an admin. I have a feeling I might be doing all the work! The other admin hasn’t been able to do anything for a while, but won an award for her efforts and so it will be a hard act to follow. I have already posted on the Facebook Page. (more…)
Hoss Muck #review
This photo of a wood pile one of the more usual photographs I’ve taken here in the Black Country. I saw in local news that one place I have taken photos is now become a dumping group and someone has dumped what we in the Black Country call a load of ‘hoss muck’. The council says this is a bio-hazard. (more…)
Spring renewal #Sunday #ramble
Spring is a time of renewal as nature bursts into bloom with a colourful display of flowers and new leaves on the trees. Even us mere humans sense a time of renewal. In China, they celebrate for a week at the Spring Festival, which we in our ignorance call Chinese New Year. It’s a good time for change in all respects. (more…)
Budget bargains #thrifty
The Aldi super-six this week are mushrooms (380g), romaine lettuce (2), asparagus (170g), fun-size pears, baby potatoes (1Kg) and oranges. They are all 69p and the offer runs until the 25th of March. (more…)
Jezza Clarkson suspended #Sunday #ramble
Yes, this week Jezza Clarkson of Top Gear fame was suspended for slapping a producer. We all know he was just messin’ around and joking. He once said Wednesbury was the worst place on earth. He was joking, he loves Wednesbury! (more…)
We are all alcoholics now
Image: FreeDigitalPhotos.net
21 units
The government recommends that we drink no more than 21 units of alcohol a week, but many people drink more? They can’t force us to cut down, can they? It seems they are going to try, at least for people on benefits. If they get away with that, how long before they try it with the rest of us? (more…)
21st century spivs
It’s my birthday tomorrow so in the post I get letters every day offering me insurance that I really need so my family will be ‘taken care of’. I would rather save and invest my money and leave that to my family, rather than get robbed blind by a bunch of 21st century spivs. Even National Savings is robbing people with lousy interest rates on their ‘pensioner bonds’. They think people are stupid. (more…)
West Brom aye it? #blackcountry
It’s Sunday morning again and so time for another ramble through the dustier pathways of my mind. Today’s picture is of sunny West Bromwich. It was sunny when I went in the summer anyway. Not quite so sunny when I went this week… (more…)
The review: #westbrom
West Bromwich
I went to West Bromwich this week. I drove down the High Street, the one pictured, but it’s changed a lot in recent years. The kerbs stick out into the road now, they have a 20 MPH speed limit and it’s pedestrianized at the end. (more…)
Creative Black Country launch
Last week I went to visit a food bank, this week I ventured into West Bromwich for the launch of Creative Black Country. It’s supported by the Arts Council to promote creativity in the Black Country and part of a national initiative. With 2 million in Arts Council funding they hope to ‘engage’ the people. (more…)
