The weather forecast for this Bank Holiday weekend is good. I’m hoping to get out in the garden today and finish my runner bean trench. Gardening is popular in the Black Country. I’ll also be out taking photographs, watch out for me!
As we live in our own little worlds we tend to forget what’s happening in the wider world. For as long as I can remember, the forces of capitalism and communism have fought it out; usually in someone else’s country. (more…)
I was expecting lots of local readers last week. Most of my readers were in Germany. The world is getting smaller. We have to remember that. It seems Russia is trying to be a bully again and is up to it’s old tricks. They never learn do they? They are not the only ones doing the sabre rattling.
I’ve had a strange week. I did finally manage to get to the hospital for my blood test. I was in and out in 10 minutes, which left 20 minutes on my 30 minutes parking. At a pound for 30 minutes, it seemed a shame to waste it. The car park was quite full though and so I decided not to join the Costa Coffee crowd, although the Taste Cafe was a little tempting. We have seen people lose their homes or be subject to the insecurity of having their homes under threat in recent years. Changes to Housing Benefit rules meant many people with a spare bedroom had the choice to pay more rent or move to a smaller home. It was a cruel policy. (more…)
We haven’t been affected much by the floods here in the Black Country. The River Tame flooded a little and I managed to get a photo. It probably flooded a bit in Sandwell Valley Countryside Park too, but the excess would go into Forge Mill Lake. Maybe they need a balancing lake on the Thames?
Today’s photo was taken on the Walsall canal at Ocker Hill. I do try to show the Black Country in a good light; that’s when I get a good light to take the photo. This is one of the pictures I’ve entered for the waterways calendar competition.
It’s Sunday and so my thoughts today are with photography. I can see a blue sky and sunshine! I have to do some shopping though, I’m running out of food and essentials. I have a busy week planned too, so it would help if I could get the shopping out of the way. I tried yesterday but there was a queue of cars not only trying to get into the supermarket car park, but trying to get out too. (more…)
I took today’s photo in bright sunshine, unfortunately I don’t have that picture any more. The original was wiped from my computer. I only have this smaller one now, which isn’t suitable for a calendar. I’m hoping the sun will come out this weekend so I can try to get the same shot again. We do have some nice places in the Black Country, it’s a shame they’re not always appreciated. (more…)
I watched a video this week of young children going up to smokers in the street and asking them for a light. The smokers responded by giving them a lecture on the dangers and health risks associated with smoking. The children then gave them a leaflet that asked them why, if they cared about the child, they didn’t care about themselves. (more…)
