Greed or sustainability?

All Saints 045

What’s your goal for 2013? To get more or just to hang on to what your have? Many people just want to hang on to what they have. Reading through the statistics for my blogs, I find the saving money blogs are the most popular.

Champagne and strawberries

While many people are worrying about paying their bills in January after the excesses of Christmas. It was revealed this morning in the Telegraph that one London street has homes valued at £8.1 millions. These houses are a stone’s throw from Harrods and belong to the super-rich. They can afford the best and never need worry about the next gas and electric bill.

Thrifty Christmas Countdown

Aldi

Super Six

The super-six at Aldi this week are cucumber, broccoli (350g), onions (1kg), celery, courgettes (3) and tomatoes (6). They are all 49p this week. I wish I had bought celery now, that is great in a soup or stew. I did have a couple of lots of broccoli, I need the vitamin C. I had chicken drumsticks and thighs (1.26 Kg) for 2.99, those will be good for making chicken stew. That’ll keep the cold out…

At least Guy Fawkes had a go

Image: SJ Nikon – Sam Roberts

Guy Fawkes was one of the conspirators that tried to blow up the House of Lords and King James the 1st on November the 5th, 1605. The House of Lords is still there 400 years later. At least they tried. This week a house was up for sale in London for £100 millions. That’s more than last night’s Euromillions jackpot. It was a very large terraced house, leasehold of course. The land wouldn’t be sold, that is traditionally how the rich stay rich and bleed the poor dry. The Duke of Westminster must own a fair bit of land in London.

Another week of creativity

River Tame

I saw a council estate on TV last week where there was a lot of poverty and drug taking. The problems weren’t  just lack of money, there was also a lack of nature. It needed green fields and they need trees to be planted. I also see lots of speed humps and traffic calming on the worst estates too.

Champagne and strawberries for the rich

Walsall

When I look at town centre shops, I see charity shops, pawn brokers and pay day loans. Then there are discount stores like Poundland. I also see some signs of wealth in this photo, some posh shops and expensive take-away food. I also see a pedestrian area that must have cost a fortune to lay out. The blue signs of the local council are evident everywhere. The top council officers and the top councillors probably don’t use the charity shops. Do they?

This week – the truth?

The Milky Pool Millfields

I have written a few blog this week both on this site and on a zillion ideas. The UK is still in recession, the government still insists on austerity and the rich get richer.  I write my ideas on how to cope with all the things that are happening. This week saw the ‘truth’ as the Sun saw it after the Hillsborough disaster. They backed the police, who blamed the fans, but now we get closer to the truth. Am I surprised that a police officer claims that she was coerced into changing her statement by an officer from the West Midlands? Perverting the course of justice isn’t new. News International publishing total crap isn’t new either.
