The weather is still very changeable in England. I need sunshine! It was a long winter and then we had snow in Spring. I want to take some photos of this beautiful landscape that we have in the Black Country.

I’ve started this post with a photo that I think is a little artistic. It was taken in Merrion’s Wood. I don’t think I would choose Merrion’s Wood for a picnic, it is a great place to take photographs and explore though. I would prefer Sandwell Valley for a picnic on a sunny day. Do you remember those sunny days we used to get in England? We do get breaks in the rain sometimes and that is a good time for a barbecue, garden party or a picnic. That was the subject of my blog yesterday.

Six towns make up Sandwell as part of local government reorganisation that made large Metropolitan Areas governed by Metropolitan councils. These were formed in 1974 and many people think it made things worse. Local government certainly became more ‘politically correct’. (more…)

Winter photography
When I’m taking photographs in winter the light is often difficult. I was standing on the bridge over the canal to take this shot. The sun was low in the sky in the afternoon and behind me for this shot. I edited this photo and added highlights to try to make the tree silhouette against the white bleak sky. Depth is provided by the tree and the canal going away into the distance. I also like the hedge row that runs along the side of the canal. (more…)
