Touching the world via Skype and social media

Wednesbury South

I use Skype and social media a lot. I get to know people in exotic places and chat via Skype and we share snippets of our lives through the social media of Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. I think it gives me a broader outlook on life; a valuable diversity… (more…)

Eccentric. Me?

1 Moorcroft Bridge

Someone suggested this week that I’m eccentric; off centre. Different! Yes, the Black Country seems to have more than it’s fair share of eccentrics. We have to be a bit mad to live here; it’s not the prettiest place in the world. It could be so much better, without the graffiti and the primitive behaviour.

Darlaston | preserving images of industrial history

Darlaston factory

I have started photographing old buildings so we have some nostalgic reminders in years to come of our industrial past. I suppose even modern buildings will be interesting, they don’t last like they used to. I found this factory interesting and there are other buildings, like the fire station, that are interesting too. This was in Darlaston in the West Midlands, otherwise affectionately known as Darlo!

Engaging social media

Social media sites like Facebook and LinkedIn have become an important part of people’s lives. The profiles on these sites are like your front garden, they say something about you. LinkedIn is like the office and having a professional looking profile sends out a message to others about your professionalism. Your Facebook Timeline also says a lot about you. You should be careful what you post there.

How to start a blog

SNOW LAKE 036

If you want to start a blog, you have to think about a few things. You are going to be publishing articles and maybe photographs too. You can choose a number of ways to do it. I use WordPress  but I have used Blogger. You also have to think about who will read your blog. Who will your articles appeal to?

How to communicate better.

Image: FreeDigitalPhotos.net

Communication is important in our lives. As children, we learn to crawl, then walk and then talk. These days communication is quite complicated and with the power of the internet, communication has become global. We communicate to connect to people socially and more importantly to learn.

This week–the sun came out

Willingsworth park

Yes, the sun came out a couple of times this week in England and the storm that was forecast was more of a whimper than a storm. I could be getting used to them though. It could go nice now, which is a shame. We did so want our overseas visitors coming for the Olympics to experience some genuine British weather. We do have some artificial clouds though. I did get out on Sunday and took some photos for the Neodigital Art blogs, then again midweek, when I took this one in the early evening sunlight. (more…)

Psychology | Persuasion, Suggestion and Repetition

A LAKE 5

Hypnosis

Hypnotherapists use suggestion to influence behaviour and beliefs. The suggestions are subtle and not always direct. They don’t say ‘stop  smoking’, they are more likely to say, ‘You will be better off when you stop smoking.’ The exacting wording is very important. They often infer something rather than being direct. They also realise that we tend to believe what we want to believe and refuse to compromise our morality. People can’t  normally be hypnotised into doing something that they are totally opposed to. They can be easily hypnotised into doing something they want to do but perhaps lack the confidence to do. Psychology | Personal Branding

Woden Road South in Summer

Company branding

I’ve looked at company branding a little recently and if a company isn’t doing so well they often re-brand their products and the company. Nike make sports shoes and trainers and they re-designed their shoes and changed the way the company did business. They had a bad reputation for the way they treated their workforce and so changed that and tried to produce their products in a more sustainable and environmentally way. Everything they do is part of the brand; part of their public persona; part of their image.  Can we apply branding to ourselves to improve business success? To help us get a job? To help us get higher pay? (more…)

Parks, museums and art galleries

Parks, museums and art galleries in the UK are usually free and there is a lot of public open space too. I took this photograph in a park this week and if you have a digital camera it’s a good place to find interesting landscapes. In museums you can find all kinds of treasures, in my local museum and art gallery I found lots of local history exhibits. Where I live there are also nature trails and farms that are open to the public. (more…)

A Monday ramble…

Great Bridge 001

Photography

I’m tired of rain and dull days, but now winter is fast approaching I have to think of some different camera settings to get decent photographs. This photograph is of the local lake or pool and the colours will begin to change now as leaves fall from the trees and we get more red and yellows in photographs. I’m not looking forward to winter but last years photographs of the snow were quite good. (more…)

The Secrets of Success

Success means following many small steps. One step at a time.

The secrets of success

“Be a dreamer; for a dreamer is one who can find his way by moonlight and then see the dawn before the rest of the world.”- Oscar Wilde

I would like to thank Robin and Judy for bringing that quote to my attention. They started following me on Twitter today; I have no idea who they are; but they must be smart! 🙂 (more…)
