The Sunday Ramble: the last day of Autumn
The Winter Solstice
It’s the winter solstice today when it will get dark quite early, it’s the shortest day. The actual time of the solstice is around 10pm this evening and so I think that means this is the last day of autumn and winter starts tomorrow. According to the BBC the nights will start getting lighter, but not the mornings, not until in the new year. (more…)
Darlaston Fun Day
I photographed Darlaston Fun Day in King’s Hill Park yesterday. I didn’t have to go far for this one, I could hear the PA system from my garden. It rained before I even set out and so I was expecting poor light and more rain. (more…)
Photography: Black Country structures
I took this photo a few weeks ago. The sun was quite high in the sky but in the wrong position for a good shot. I need to go back and take the shot again from the same place but much earlier in the day. This is the Horse and Jockey pub in Wednesbury and quite a big traditional English pub. (more…)

The Review: a green and pleasant land
The political parties have been asking voters to choose who should control local councils in the UK this week. I usually post nice photos of the Black Country, but much of it is ugly dereliction. Caused by a dereliction of duty by local politicians and council officials. This is England’s ‘green and pleasant land’. (more…)
Art in Darlo and Walsall
Darlaston, otherwise known as Darlo, is part of Walsall; but doesn’t seem to always be remembered by the council when they are spending money. There is a ‘new’ art gallery in Walsall that aspires to hosting the Turner prize, but the work of local artists in Darlo went on display in the library. I went to review it and took a few pictures. These are the watercolours. I thought most of them were good.
