Bank Holiday events #review
Today’s picture is of ‘West Bromwich’ Manor House. There is a re-enactment on there today of an American Civil War battle. It is bank holiday in the UK and so there will be lots of events to go to and for me to photograph. (more…)
St Georges Day #review
It’s St George’s Day on Thursday and will be celebrated as St George is the patron saint of England. There is an event at West Bromwich Manor House today and it’s the Stone Cross St George’s Day parade tomorrow.
Photography: Autumn events
Now it’s Autumn there are fewer events to photograph and the weather is even more unsettled. This was a vintage fair at West Bromwich Manor House at the weekend and was partly outside and partly inside. (more…)
It’s heritage weekend and lots of museums will be open and have special events. We all have different ideas of what our heritage is. I had an appointment at the hospital this week and the remainder of the old workhouse is still at the end of the car park. It’s derelict, but that’s an important reminder of the past. (more…)
A bit of Bank holiday history.
Today’s picture is of the Tame close to Bescot, it was a bit overgrown when I took this one. This is close to where Elwell’s forge would have been years ago. That’s the fascinating subject of the History of Wednesbury blog post this weekend.
What to do this Bank Holiday weekend
Last weekend I took this photo in a park. The UK has lots of parks and nature reserves and so there are lots of picnic areas. Going somewhere and perhaps taking a picnic blanket, food and drink and even a small radio for a little music; could make for a nice afternoon out. Others might go shopping and take advantage of the sales on this weekend. You’ll find those bargains on Monday.
Neodigital Art | PhotoScape edits
Neodigital Art is about using digital cameras, scanners, computers and graphic tablets to create art. You can even use pencils and pens! I took a few photos on Sunday and have been trying to do something interesting with them in editing.
A Englishmans home is his castle
Today’s picture is of the Manor House, West Bromwich, which has a St George’s Day Family Fun Day on today. There will also be a big St George’s Day parade in Stone Cross tomorrow.
Neodigital Art | Editing snow photos
We have more snow, here in England and so I thought I would cover editing snow pictures a little more. I edited this this one with PhotoScape and used the option to make it look like a pencil drawing and added some text.
Neodigital Art | Editing old photos
Sometimes you can scan an old photo and improve it or make it artistic with editing. This is West Bromwich High Street at the beginning of the 20th century. I edited with PhotoScape and use the colorize option.
This weeks amazing ideas
When I start a blog, I have to think of a title and then what picture to begin with. It’s not easy! This photo is of the Manor House in West Bromwich, it’s now a museum and open to the public on some afternoons. People overseas keep telling me they want to come and see the places that I photograph. Maybe the Tourist Board should sponsor one of my blogs!
Neodigital Art | angles and depth
I went to the Oak House on Sunday and took some photographs of the house and the grounds. This is quite an unusual angle, but the light was bright and I have got shadows, giving a better view of the details on the house. The leading on the windows shows clearly, but on the photo taken farther away, that can’t be seen. This photograph still has depth as the front wall goes away from us. (more…)
I photographed this display yesterday in the Oak House, an old manor house. That would be where the Lord of the Manor lived while the common people lived in squalor. I find it amazing that elitism is still popular in the 21st century. We have computers, the internet and smart phones, but people still worship royalty and celebrities. They turn out in droves to wave their little flags, when prompted to, by their betters. It seems once it gets going, it’s infectious. We are social animals though and so we like to do things together. I’m surprised public orgies aren’t more popular.
Neodigital Art | Update 17
My first picture today is the Manor House at West Bromwich. The light wasn’t very good, but I used a lot of Sunday’s pictures and the video clips to make the video I used in yesterdays blog. I was disappointed with the video, it displays full screen and it loses resolution; it’s better displayed smaller. I did embed it and the preview was good but then WordPress changed it to a link. (more…)
Money | Photography
Most people can find something to photograph close by these days and it’s inexpensive with a digital camera. Then you can share your photographs using Windows Live, Photobucket or Facebook. We started at this lake and it’s relaxing walking around and sometimes we talk to people. It’s less than two miles away and I am quite often happy to just go there but we took some pictures and I shot some video clips and we moved on. Yes, I’m making a video! (more…)
