This is Wednesbury Market, my local market. In the past the council have tried stopping other markets and car boot sales setting up too close, by claiming that this market has a royal charter. It is generally accepted that the market does have a royal charter, but the truth is the royal charter was given to the lord of the manor and not the council, for two fairs a year; not two markets a week! I photographed the local market in Wednesbury this week. Do you suppose all the goods on sale were British? Me neither. We live in a global market now and everything seems to have a price. I have been helping students with their writing and one has graduated and got a job in Shanghai, she asked my advice this week. (more…)

The Aldi super-six this week are cucumber, lemons (3), little gem lettuce (2), broccoli, onions (1 kg) and baking potatoes (4). They are all 39p this week and the offer ends on the 22nd of April. (more…)

The Aldi super-six this week are tomatoes (6), chantenay carrots (500g), savoy cabbage, lemons (3), swede and onions (1 Kg). They are all 49p each. Those are on offer until next Thursday. (more…)


Only in the Black Country

The Birmingham Black Country half marathon was run yeserday morning. They were running down the tow path of the canal. It was a time trial, it’s a bit difficult to run a marathon on a tow path; not too much room to spread out. Someone went in the canal last time trying to overtake! The run went through Sheepwash nature reserve past the balancing lake. At least it’s a bit scenic and a pub at the finish line… (more…)
