Cooking dinner is a timeless Valentine’s Day tradition that’s always a winner. The main ideas are to cook at home or go to a fancy restaurant. Asking a friend to cook for you and ordering food to come to the home are other options. Cooking at home needs an extra touch for it to be romantic so add rose petals as a guide to their seat or make every dinner item red-themed. If you read last week’s post then you will know that my protagonist, Nick has met Lily and they are forming a love-hate relationship. They decided to stop at Nick’s home in Birmingham on the way to see Lily’s university friend, Vicky. People are interested in people, what they do and how they feel. Writing a novel is about people’s emotions. This one is meant to be humorous, but doesn’t need to be a laugh a minute. The drive along the motorway would give a lot of opportunities for humorous dialogue.

In previous blogs about how to write a novel, I have introduced you to Nick, my protagonist for a novel or novella. We really need a profile of Nick and all the other characters. I have decided Nick will be an only child and that his parents were killed and so he runs away from life. He has a wandering spirit and so he buys a camper van and sets off to explore the English Countryside. I had a few comments last week and one suggested he lose his most treasured possession, but also find love. It would be heart warming for him to find his soul mate; but it’s never that easy is it?
