Finance Friday | Talk Talk Talk

I answer my phone this morning. This is unusual for me, I usually leave the calls to go to my answering machine because of nuisance calls that could be dealt with easily; but aren’t because they make money for the telecom companies. It was from TalkTalk.

Olympics–love it or hate it?

Aldi

It’s Finance Friday and the Olympics start today. I am not a fan, too expensive for tax payers in a time of recession and austerity. We probably wouldn’t be in a recession if it wasn’t for all these jollies for the rich. So far this year in the UK there has been the Jubilee, Ascot, Henley, Wimbledon and a host of other champagne and strawberry events. I doubt if there will be much champagne at this one. I read  a bottle of water is £1.60 ($2.50) and  a small bottle (300ml) of Heineken lager is £4.20 ($6.50). Don’t have the plate of curry at £8.50 or you’ll need even more water! Frugal Friday | Only 99p

Aldi

I went to Aldi last night and did a little shopping, getting fresh vegetables and things before the Bank Holiday weekend starts. The prices of most of the items on my bill,  ended in in 99p. Thrifty Thursday | Summer savings

Money - Seeing the future

This week my phone bill with TalkTalk was reduced to just under 18 pounds. They offered me the reduction if I agreed to renew my contract for another 18 months. It’s usually just over 25 pounds for broadband (40 Gb), line rental, calls 24/7 and international calls to countries around Europe, the USA and Australia. They advertise 60 pounds a year off, if I pay my line rental a year in advance too and so I’ll check that offer out on the website. Another saving of five pounds a month has got to be worth looking at. (more…)

WEDNESDAY - WOLVERHAMPTON 019

Digital Photography

Digital photography can be quite thrifty and a great hobby for the kids. It’s worth buying them their own digital camera. The local park is a great place to begin taking pictures. Incidentally, my previous Thrifty blogs have their own page and  there are still lots of thrifty ideas there. I am using a blog with a permalink this week so I can write it in advance. (more…)
