Today’s scenic picture was taken in Woden Road South. Wednesbury was named after the Anglo-Saxon God, Woden. We have four roads named Woden Road, North, South, East and West. The general idea was to build wide roads around the town and then join them all up to make a ring road. This makes sense.. (more…)
My local council is at it again, installing more bloody traffic calming at a cost of of £140,000. They cut services for disabled and vulnerable children and then to ‘protect’ children at this school, they spend a fortune on road humps. The mini roundabouts and chicanes didn’t work. Really?
I saw a council estate on TV last week where there was a lot of poverty and drug taking. The problems weren’t just lack of money, there was also a lack of nature. It needed green fields and they need trees to be planted. I also see lots of speed humps and traffic calming on the worst estates too.
Students will be starting at university this week. I have been helping university students a little and I expect to do so again this year. If any students want my advice for this year, it is to write your papers or essays with the reader in mind. The lecturer or professor reading them will be impressed with a good layout, clear text and a font that they don’t have to squint to read.
The picture above was taken near my home in Wednesbury, which is part of Sandwell. Six towns make up Sandwell as part of local government reorganisation that made large Metropolitan Areas governed by Metropolitan councils. These were formed in 1974 and many people think it made things worse. Local government certainly became more ‘politically correct’. (more…)
If you’re not familiar with Room 101, it’s a television programme and celebrities vanquish all the things they dislike or hate to Room 101. My fellow bloggers will like this idea because they too can write Room 101 blogs and tell the world their dislikes and hates. This is probably better than writing a bucket list of things you want to do before you kick it… (more…)
I took this photo in August, it looks very green compared to now. Beyond those trees is the technology college for kids aged 11 to 16 years old. Along the side of the lake is a road where people often drive quite fast. Then at the end a double roundabout, followed by a really stupid road narrowing. The roads are quite wide but the stupid people make them narrow to slow traffic past the technology college because these kids are too stupid to know how to cross the road. (more…)
