It’s Valentine’s Day today when people reaffirm their closest relationships. Humans have many rules and traditions relating to relationships. These include etiquette, social rules, good manners and polite behaviour. (more…)

The Review: A week of floods

1 floods

We haven’t been affected much by the floods here in the Black Country. The River Tame flooded a little and I managed to get a photo. It probably flooded a bit in Sandwell Valley Countryside Park too, but the excess would go into Forge Mill Lake. Maybe they need a balancing lake on the Thames?

Thrifty Thursday: Valentine bargains

The Aldi super-six this week are little gem lettuce (2), garlic (4), celery, tomatoes (6), chantenay carrots (500g) and button mushrooms (150g). Those are 49p each and the offer lasts until the 26th of February. (more…)

The Saturday collection of this week’s highlights

The bridge across to Moorcroft Wood

Today’s picture is of the bridge across the canal that goes to Moorcroft Wood. Many canals run in a straight line, but this one meanders around a little. People are complaining about this, but are these facilities that important we should rate them higher than child welfare for example. (more…)

Thrifty ideas for Valentines Day

The super-six at Aldi this week are; savoy cabbage, mild onions (3), beetroot (500g), lemons (3), carrots (1Kg) and broccoli (350g). They are all 39p each. That’s the same as last week. I had the broccoli last week; packed with vitamin C. I like the turkey mince and that was reduced from £1.75 to £1.25, so I have a few packs of that in my freezer now.  That’s quite versatile, you can make cottage pies with it or even do stir fry.

A guest post by Angelina Lawson

Cooking dinner is a timeless Valentine’s Day tradition that’s always a winner. The main ideas are to cook at home or go to a fancy restaurant. Asking a friend to cook for you and ordering food to come to the home are other options. Cooking at home needs an extra touch for it to be romantic so add rose petals as a guide to their seat or make every dinner item red-themed. Going out to eat requires a reservation, so book it in advance. You can also take your lover to a picnic in the park. (more…)
