The Review: Art Attack

11 Wednesbury Art

I seem to be gaining more recognition for my interest in art just lately. Not just for trying to create art, but as an art critic. One of the things on my bucket list is to get a picture into an art gallery. I don’t think it will be a local gallery. (more…)

Art in Walsall?

1 picture

I photographed a few of the exhibits in the local art gallery on Sunday. I think this exhibit probably has a cultural significance to a minority of people. Is it art? Does it belong in an art gallery? The gallery serves the people of Walsall.

Sunday musings

stamp 2

I’ve been experimenting with my pictures again. I made this one sepia and gave it a perforated edge like stamp. Artistic? I think it’s better than some art I see that looks like a pile of bricks or paint thrown at a canvas. Ordinary people with their feet on the ground would want a picture like this on their wall, rather than the work of some over-rated artist who pickles sheep in formaldehyde.

Art | Can we define it?

A drawing by Renoir

Walsall Art Gallery

Renoir

This drawing might not seem very special, but if I told you it was by Pierre-Auguste Renoir. You might have a different opinion. Art is about perceptions and a well known name or even the name of a art movement affects our perception of a work of art. This little drawing is in Walsall Art Gallery .

Free places to go in the Black Country

Last Sunday I managed to go to a park to take some photos, then on to Walsall Art gallery and even managed a visit to Sandwell Valley Country park in West Bromwich. There are lots of free places to go and photograph.

Neodigital Art | Inspired by galleries

art - Walsall

I went to the Bilston Craft Gallery on Thursday and Walsall Art Gallery on Sunday, so I had a lot to inspire me this week. I took this photo when I came out of Walsall Art gallery and thought the bikes in the foreground would give it a lot of depth. The building are unusual too. I did the edit with PhotoScape.

Walsall Art Gallery – David Rowan: Pacha Kuti Ten

clip_image002

I went to see David Rowan’s exhibition at The New Art Gallery Walsall and tried to take a few photographs of the exhibits in his Pachakuti ten exhibition. This picture might give you an idea of the mood of the exhibition, but besides capturing the picture, I also captured a reflection of some of the other exhibits too. You can download a PDF that has low resolution images of all the pictures, but to really appreciate them, go and see the exhibition.

Thrifty Thursday | Bargains for the bank holiday

The Aldi super-six this week are celery, cucumbers, lemons (3), spring onions, tomatoes (6) and garlic (4). They are all 49p each. They haven’t changed from last week, but their website has. There is a lot more on there.

Thrifty Thursday | Walsall again?

The Aldi super-six this week are celery, cucumbers, lemons (3), spring onions, tomatoes (6) and garlic (4). They are all 49p each. That’s the same as last week. I spend ten pounds this week in Poundland, which isn’t difficult. (more…)

Neodigital Art | What is Art?

DUCKS 004

Pictures were drawn by early man, on the walls of caves with whatever he could find. The earliest pictures were probably done with chalk and maybe charcoal. Some artists still use charcoal. Artists tend to be avant garde, the advanced guard, exploring the new frontiers. They search for new ideas and new mediums.

Sunday ramble through the art ways of the Black Country

Walsall Art Gallery

Turner Prize

Walsall Art Gallery was in the news this week, they spent £471,000 on a bid to bring the Turner prize to Walsall. No, they didn’t get it; it went to Glasgow. They could always spend a few quid giving me an exhibition. I’ll send them some pictures to print, frame and put in the gallery. If they are throwing money around, why not throw it at someone local? Another week of creativity

River Tame

I saw a council estate on TV last week where there was a lot of poverty and drug taking. The problems weren’t  just lack of money, there was also a lack of nature. It needed green fields and they need trees to be planted. I also see lots of speed humps and traffic calming on the worst estates too.

Walsall Art Gallery - view

I went to Walsall new art gallery this week, searching for inspiration. That dead sheep encased in formaldehyde was the main exhibit in the Damien Hirst exhibition. There was some works from more conventional artists too.

Can the Black Country afford culture?

Walsall Art Gallery

I went into Walsall a couple of weeks ago, before those protests by the EDL. There was a lot of charity shops around by the market. There was a pawn broker too and I’m told there are pay-day loan parasites too. Young people are struggling to find work and so can the art gallery afford to spend a quarter of a million trying to attract the Turner prize?

Another week closer to Christmas

The Milky Pool in May

I took this photo in May, doesn’t time fly when you’re having fun? At the time of writing I can see blue sky and sunshine, we didn’t see much of that through the summer and now Autumn is flying by. It will soon be Christmas and we have to prepare, save up for some stamps to post our Christmas cards!
