Neodigital Art | Monochrome

West Brom High Street

If you can find old pictures and scan them you can produce something interesting. This is an old picture of West Bromwich, High Street. Look how wide it is and how wide the pavements are enough room for the tram, cars, parking and the crowds of shoppers! It is monochrome because it was taken at the beginning of the 20th century. Thrifty Thursday | Bargains

Money - Seeing the future

My bargain this week comes from this website and can save you up to £25 when you spend £80 at Matalan. I found some stuff I wanted but the jeans were out of stock in my size. Remember too they have really good home ware stuff as well as clothes. I like the Easy brand in the clothes and you can’t have enough tee shirts. The Pierre Cardin boxer shorts are 2 for £10, with the discount off they are a  really good buy. Last time I was in Matalan I bought rice bowls for a pound each. They have bargains on hats and sunglasses too. I want a linen hat from there. (more…)

Neodigital Art | Light and colour

Kings Hill 001

I was trying to get my printer/scanner working the other day and scanned this picture. This is an old picture, but it shows that you can do something interesting with a scanner. I used to play on that field as a child! The land and the road was actually on fire because of the coal and gas underneath. The coal has since been removed and there is a sports field and new houses there now. That row of little workers houses is still there! (more…)

How to write blogs

JUNCTION NINE

For the benefit of local readers, yes the picture is junction 9 of the M6 motorway. It was taken when there was a break in the rain! The traffic light were on red as usual. It is important when I write a blog to start it with something interesting, try to tease the reader to click the link to read the rest of the page. Are you teased enough yet? Maybe, I should mention sex? I mentioned testosterone in my blog on a Zillion Ideas today. That’s a sex hormone! That blog is about how our emotions affect our hormones and vice versa. (more…)

How to write a novel | details and authenticity

CANAL 001

When you are writing fiction it’s a good idea to make it plausible by including a few details that might otherwise go unnoticed. Last week I introduced you to my character Nick who I said could be someone who dreams of  becoming a gypsy and travelling. I thought maybe he could tour England in a camper van and that would give us a nice scenario for an adventure, a thriller or even a romance. If I wanted something really unusual, he could do the tour on a canal boat and experience England’s 17th century canals. Take a look at the picture and think what little details might make the story sound more authentic. There are fancy little benches along the canal on this stretch and notice the black and white mooring points too. A lot of narrowboats chose this place to spend the night a couple of weeks ago. Moorcroft Wood - The Sanna

Neodigital Art is about taking good photos and editing them to produce art. I can’t do that with every shot, but I have managed some interesting and artistic shots in Moorcroft Wood. This is the Sanna, a pool in Moorcroft Wood. It is the result of open cast coal mining. This was taken last summer. (more…)

Bank Holiday Monday blues.

Woden Road S - Wednesbury

The Bank Holiday weekend was a bit of a wash out in the UK. But the flag wavers were out in London yesterday. The weather forecast for today is a little better. They have promised sunshine for this afternoon. We had record rain in April and then summer weather in May. It makes it interesting when it’s so unpredictable. My blogs have been inspired by the weather and so too is my photography. I’ve written a psychology blog on a Zillion Ideas today. What does your behaviour say about you? That’s the title and you might like to pop over and read that later. (more…)

Frugal Friday | Grow your own

UK Money

It looks very much like the Great British Summer is here, but how long will it last? I think there is time to germinate a few seeds. Runner beans are easy to grow and I am always amazed at how well they crop. I also intend to start some lettuce seed and tomato seeds off later today. I bought some French beans seeds from Aldi, but need some runner bean seed and so I’ll pop out and buy some later. I mentioned how getting your 5 fruit and vegetables a day can prevent some nasty diseases in yesterday’s thrifty blog. You can save money and stay healthy by growing your own. (more…)

Neodigital Art | Sunshine at last

MONDAY WILLENHALL 031

I took this photograph yesterday and it’s the River Tame. I remembered that the flowers grow down the edges in Spring. The Tame runs all over the Black Country or at least the brooks do, that feed it. These flowers seem to grow all along it and so I might go to another location and photograph that while the flowers are still in bloom today. I could take a picnic! (more…)

Neodigital Art | Making the most of June

MONDAY CANAL 014

I took this shot yesterday and the sun was quite low in the sky but we have to get out there when the rain stops! It’s pouring down as I write this so it was a good choice. The light was difficult because the sun was low in the sky. You can see the dark shadows despite the sun being bright and the sky fairly clear. It would be better to go out just after midday, but the shadows do tend to make the pictures more interesting. I did have to walk down the canal for a while to get the shot I wanted. (more…)
